Jack Stand Safety

Is it safe to rest the car on 4 jack stands? (1 jack stand per corner jack pad) I am concerned the car could tip over too easily if pushed only a little. Also, the higher the stand the more likely it will tip. What's the rule? Thanks.

Figure like this, You have about 1,000 pounds being focused on each of those 4 about 6 square inch surfaces. as long as the stands are of good quality, and on flat level ground, it would take a lot to shift them. Just set them no higher than you need and keep it level.

I'd be more worried about the stands sinking into an asphalt driveway (remember use something between jackstand and especially HOT asphalt) than I would worry that they could tip once weight is on them.

I've had mine on jack stands. It was not unstable. I put it on stands early so I could paint the calipers (after cleaning them). I made some little blocks of 3/4 baltic birch plywood to fit into the jacking pockets and rest on the top of the jack stands.
