This looks amazing! I just moved to Germany in November. I live in Spangdahlem so the ring isn't too far. I will not be missing this!

You should definitely make it for the 24 hour race at the 'Ring. It has to be experienced and not attended. Sort of the "Burning Man" event in Germany.

You should also make contact with users Swadeness and Oreo135 - they are also stationed in Spangdahlem. Swadeness even told me he likes to drive up to the 'Ring and do his PT there jogging on the side of the 'Ring. How cool is THAT!

It's not too late to stop them, but we need to push hard. In one week from now http://ja-zum-nuerburgring.de/ and Otto Flimm will host a meeting in Nürburg with more details.
The meeting is at 16:00 on Friday so I can't make it.

If its not raining saturday night I would kinda like to go to that park and ride and see if I can find the M3 owner who doesn't think a 35 series car can run a N/A M3 and enlighten him.
I believe I watched a video once where the 135 takes the M3 in the quarter. And they say there is no replacement for displacement

The M3's V8 doesn't have much displacement. It rev's like crazy but only displaces 4l.

Just incase you guys have not seen this video before... it gives you an appreciation for hot demanding the "Green Hell" can be. This VHS video was produced in the mid 1980's ('88 - I think) when RUF's CTR "Yellow Bird" was the fastest car in the world as tested by Road & Track at VW's test track in Ehra-Lessien near Woflsburg. RUF's test driver's nickname is "sideways Stefan" and supposedly the car could only do four laps before one of the rear tires would blow!

Lets not forget this RUF yellow bird was teh first production car with: super low profile tires of 17's inches, 450 HP (& 2400lbs!!) and the first car with a production MT6! Boy how times have changed!

Rhineland-Palatinate is to prevent sale of the Nürburgring

Mainz (dpa/lrs) - no sellout at the Nürburgring: Formula 1 and other public Motorsport highlights in the Eifel region to remain fans. The State Government of Rhineland-Palatinate wants to achieve this by law, so that the insolvent ring remains an attraction for the visitors after a possible sale to a private investor and not a Sheikh on the ring can turn his laps privately. The restorers of the formula 1 circuit in the Eifel mountains see better chances for the search for buyers.

The Nurburgring should be preserved as a unique, traditional place of latitude and Motorsports, (both SPD) and Minister Eveline Lemke (Green Party) wrote Prime Minister Malu Dreyer, Transport Minister Roger Lewentz on Monday in a joint statement. «That's why we want to guarantee by law public access in the future.» The ring had to apply for insolvency last year out of financial necessity. Talks with potential investors are scheduled in April. Currently, there are over 30 interested parties according to the Nürburgring GmbH.

The restorers want to exclude the risk that an investor for the possible recovery of subsidies must be held liable. In the coming year, but threatens a recovery of country AIDS. The EU Commission checks to see whether aid amounting to about half a billion euros at the Nürburgring were possibly illegal.

Brussels would accept a requirement for continued public use of the ring at the investor search - assume the restorers after a visit to Brussels. A restart is only possible via a legally secure way that is coordinated with the European Commission, told ring custodian Jens Lieser.

From the Office of EU competition Commissioner Joaquín Almunia said on Monday: «The Commission is on this subject in contact with the German authorities.» The CDU Landtag group accused the Red-Green Government, she stumble upon afterwards – because the CDU had earlier asked to maintain public access to the ring.

The previous SPD-led Government had let build an oversized amusement park on the ring a few years ago for around 330 million euros. Also tax money had to go to cover a loan. A previously scheduled private funding had failed.

In the infidelity trial against former Finance Minister Ingolf Deubel (SPD) and others for the private financing of the ring, there was no new evidence on Monday. Urs Barandun businessman before the Landgericht Koblenz made use of its right to deny the statement. The Swiss had been brought 2009 when searching for a private investor for the ring-expansion of financial intermediaries in the game.

Babatunde had been an alleged US investor in Vista – the cheque turned out to be vulnerable. A Commission paid by the Nürburgring GmbH amounting to EUR four million already to the intermediary could be saved only by chance. Shortly afterwards resigned Deubel. Before the Landgericht, broke out however a dispute between prosecutors and defenders to the transfer of files. Background: Two employees of the regional court of audit already knew the opinion of Deubels from the process prior to their interrogation as witnesses. Deubels Defender, Rüdiger Weidhaas, criticized this had influenced their statements. He had a complaint against unknown to the Attorney General.

The public prosecutor's Office dismissed the allegations. The opinion of Deubels had gone to the President of the Court of Auditors, but not at the end of February in the process included staff.

The 'Ring is For Sale (and it's scaring me)...

http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.ph...t-s-scaring-me

The last two paragraphs scare the hell out of me!

Now because this is a blog, I'm going to voice my own opinion. I'm pessimistic. There's no way the government can hang on to something like the 'Ring. The EU are all over it. From the EU's point of view, the German government has been caught red-handed spending taxpayers' money on a private project to the benefit of only a handful of 'businessmen'. Domestically the Nürburgring is competing with other circuits like Oschersleben, Hockenheim and Lausitzring. Within the EU it's butting heads with greats like Le Mans, Silverstone and Monza. When Government-owned businesses are competing against the private industry, it all has to be above board and 100% transparent. The only thing clear about the Nürburgring in the last few years is that it's swallowed over 400 million euros of taxpayers' money. That's not fair, is it? It doesn't matter that it was wasted on a bunch of crap like the rollercoaster and the boulevard.

They are going to sell it. They're going to wipe their hands of the whole sorry mess, take a paltry cash sum (offers are in the region of only €125 million for the whole thing) and by doing that they're going to throw the whole region to the wolves of independent capitalism. All I can hope for is a fair and equal battlefield, where the local hotels and businesses like Rent4Ring get to offer their products on an equal footing to the new track owners... wish us luck!

If it becomes privately owned, this will massively suck for the enthusiast. Only hope that the person that buys has some common sense and can meld with the community. Because without the support of the community, they will fail.
