125i with N55 midpipe & 135i muffler - video

The n55 mids should be bolt on for 128i/125i. Alternative would be to use maddad 3" midpipe for 2010-2012 135i, but that may be too much for the conservative N52

I think this n55 + stock 135i axle back sounds quite aggressive and should be a good mod.
Benefits include:
  • slight weight savings over n54 midpipe, so should be a bit lighter than stock 128i exhaust
  • no secondary cats. --> slight performance gains
  • 135i tips that are about 0.5 to an 1" wider in diameter
  • ability to use 135i axel back like Berk, maddad or used OEM for cheap
  • using the 135i BMP would remove the Resonator, and add more flow & sound

one of the cars above has a Winter tunning software, i think its the 1st video.

there are other video's but not on youtube anymore, maybe vimeo or street fire

Yes I think it sounds raspy, cuz he's flooring/blipping it. On the drive by videos it was alright less raspy when driven normal. With clicks and pops when shifting fast and such.

If anything n55 has a market, so find someone with oem laying around, buy n55 mid pipe, try it and resell it if u hate it.

135i muffler is quite deep and pleasant sounding with plenty baffling to dampen sound

Not an engine note that appeals to me. The I6 with the exhaust opened up just doesnt have a nice sound. Reminds me of the Japanese fart can crowd cars. IMO.

Agree. BWM Peformance muffler is the way to go - deeper more classy sound - about as good as it gets for the I6.

I will admit these videos are poor and offer just high revs in a parking lot.

I actually now have now have a set up that mimics the above videos. It sounds closest to video #1, but it is much deeper and not raspy at all.
my set up:
The user Pushkin sold me his custom 3" into 135i muffler. Find his thread to get a sound clip from dyno. When I can I will take and post videos of the sound.

Wait so does this mean the 125i with the n55 midpipes can run any 135i aftermarket exhausts?

yes, go wild. Even cut out the resonator with 135i BMP and simmilar.
But the regular 135i axel back muffler may be cheapest choice & optimal choice followed by Berk and any other local/ cheap $400-$600 aftermarket option.

I do not think there is any modification required, I would speak to any 135i or n54 & n55 tuner to get the measurements at the exhaust manifold/headers to confirm.

i will ask in n54/n55 forum, cuz its easy for me to measure and confirm for 128i/125i

I agree, you are essentially buying a full 135i OEM exhaust.

Your Magnaflow already replaced the resonator, so your only worry is secondary cats. Midpipes for you just offer increased diameter of pipe

Overall it will be worth it for those who didnt do PE or Magnaflow, to get increased diameter of pipe, cheaper cost vs Superprint midpipes( the only 125i/128i solution that I know) and secondary car delete.

Sound is subjective, but I do love hearing what I paid for and feeling the gains in the low revs.

based on that video, i think its the best sounding 128i. The raspyness gives it a great presence and sound. Wish mine sounded like that xD

Found a thread on German forums. http://www.1erforum.de/bmw-125i/135i...25i-87523.html

this looks possible !!! The green convertable form video 1 is on the forum

Preferred set up is with 135i OEM muffler for sound suppression, the n54 muffler is deemed quieter versus n55 muffler!!!.

BAD news: Not direct fit, you need an adapter or a good welder.

Any German Speakers, to conform this??
Will read the broken translation soon.

I dont think we need a complete translation. Just basics of how to modify n55 to work with 125i/128i

My grasp so far is:
in the early pages they talk about cutting stock exhaust and using backstuck piping ( 200 euro) to attach 135i muffler.
then a white 125i posts video and talks about how he had n55 midpipe made to work. this is followed by Green cabrio and grey 125i coupe with their n55's

I kinda agree but also don't... What you seem to dislike (just like me) are glasspack mufflers that reduce the pitch of the exhaust note to a deep rumble.. I only like the sound of the n52 with something that doesn't do that.. Like the laptorr (soon my precious -_-), gives it a much more high-pitched note.. Not quite a straight through, still muffled and resonated, but just enough to remove rasp.

BUMP
Added a video.

Seems the required welding is as follows:
-Cut off N55 mounts to exhaust manifold(HOW MUCH SPACE NEEDED)
-Weld 128i/125i sized transition

Add muffler and enjoy

same as 128i
Power
3 stage 330i/x3/x5 intake with DISA- you have this
Tune & one change in the air box( only 125i ) to get 130i hp or a bit more- look into European tuners and see what they do. It has to do with an air pipe.

for more aggressive things:
full exhaust, probably custom to save $ over supersprint
headers with no Cat converters
LSD

Suspension: most M3 parts. Sway bars and Rear sub-frame bushings are popular

Brakes: this is a debate, so go with smth for your needs
