PS2, worth the money???? Hmmmmm...

Okay, this is straight forward, I'm having a hard time spending the money for PS2 tires when there are other quality tires for way less. While I LOVE the PS2, is it really worth spending the extra money??? Plus, they wear out fast!

Per Tire Rack:

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 - F: $368 R: $405
Michelin Pilot Super Sport - F: $246 R: $285
Continental ExtremeContact DW - F: $203 R: $225
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11(closeout) - F: $148 R: $297

I'm leaning towards the Mich Super Sport, but would like some opinions.

With those prices, it shouldn't even be regarded as a decent option. It is irrelevant...unless it is cheaper than at least some of the alternative tires you mention. PSS is the natural choice of street tire for 1M, especially so because of current prices and it makes almost everything better than the PS2 and in some areas like wet traction it is in a whole different league.

Don't even know why they still produce PS2, if they do, should be discontinued already. It was a good tire and it is replaced by a better tire, period.

It all depends on what you want out of the tire. PSS is the best all around performance time with a good treadwear rating. If you don't mind giving up some performance to save some money, the Conti DW is a good choice. I went with PSS because I autocross and they also serve as my rain tires at the track. The PS2s are outdated and should not be considered unless the price was significantly reduced well below PSS pricing.

Don't buy the PS2 . . . unless you have more money than you know what to do with.

I bought the RE-11's, and have been very happy with them on the street. I did an autocross last weekend and they performed great! The car was much more predictable at the limit and definitely had more grip. PSS will also have more grip, but others have had problems with heat cycling after a few events. If you don't go to the track or autox, that would not be as much of an issue.

Personal favourite is PSS, but at those prices I'd get the RE-11's.

Thanks everyone, glad to hear I'm not the only one thinking the PS2 just aren't worth the extra money.

Tire Rack just uploaded their first test results of the new Michelin Pilot AS. Judging by the numbers they are a home run by Michelin.

As a followup, I went with the MPSS.

I almost got the AS3 but end up buying PSS which feels way much better than PS2. Also the threads on the AS3 are not as sporty looking as on the PSS.
