Jhall and I both understand dv and realize that payments are made for DV claims based on the *principle* or THEORY that the vehicle has lost value, however a vehicles true diminished value can really only be calculated when the vehicle is sold, because the amount of diminished value lost decreases over time with the age and the mileage added by the owner prior to the sale of the vehicle, and it diminishes to zero if the owner never sells the vehicle.

Again. Just making a point to ponder here, not saying that companies don't pay based on theoretical dv all the time.
I will preempt this with a grammar/spelling apology, this was typed via mobile

Jhall included, I COMPLETELY agree with you on this point.

The only issue with it is that it assumes a lot of."what if's" thatcan make or break the case. Amd there will always be some DV aftwr an.incident, and I agree like a cara value it will get less.

On the other hand I feel its all part of the game. the incident happens point in time, and sothe DV has to happen point in time as well... and however, with todays "show me the car fax" era any little squeak tied to the vin will haunt the cars sale for its lifetime.

Jesus dude, why don't you let this blow over first. You posted his possible VIN and go on about the type of damage. I'm sure if the situation were reversed you wouldn't want people talking about your shit until it was resolved.

To put it simply - in the UK the person is insured. In the US the car is insured.
Theyre two entirely different ways of running the business.
This is also likely insurance company and state based.

I have State Farm insurance. I am insured and my vehicle is insured.
If I drive someone else's car, my insurance backs me in that car.
If I let someone else drive my car, my insurance also covers that driver, as long as I allowed him/her to drive it.

If the person you let drive your car also has insurance, and he gets into an accident, then his insurance is primary, and your insurance can come in if/when needed.

I have full coverage.
Also, that is the reason why I never get the insurance offered by a rental car company. My insurance agent explained that to me years ago. Since I have full coverage on my vehicle and me, I don't need to take their insurance as I am a fully insured driver.

Hopefully the OP's friend has full coverage, and hopefully he didn't cause any other damage to another car or property.

As it has been said, insurance details change state to state.
I'm also covered in any state I drive as my insurance comes with me.

The advantage of the rental company "insurance" is that it's not really actually insurance per se and thus doesn't show up on your claim history to effect your insurance premiums.

sorry to hear op, but your friend is an idiot. if he lost control, he was pushing the car beyond his own limits. and for some reason folks driving bimmer tend to think they are schumacher

Once you get the money, it's time to find a new friend.

if you can stomach the high $$$ per day expense.. that is the best way to look at it... you are protecting yourself from having to file a second loss if you have an accident in the unfamiliar rental vehicle. overall however it's an abysmally poor value.

Your front tires are SHOT!!!! Dude I hate to say this but I Wouldnt be surprised if this played a key factor (or maybe it didnt) in this happening.... (I could be wrong but.... )

That is BY FAR the worst wrecked 1'er I have ever seen, I would be surprised if that was something Glassoman would even consider touching.

SMFH! Your friend is lucky to be alive.

If hes a close friend, first I'd give him a hug, then slap the crap out of him! That is a sad sight....

Thanks for sharing though dude and glad you found a new one...

@ OP: how did they pass the bad news on to you about your totalled 1M: the sad facts straight up or a bit like in the notorious French song "Tout va très bien, Madame la Marquise" (see below: with English translation) ?
