Pads and Rotors
So I brought my 135i in to the dealer for regular maintenance and they told me my front pads and rotors need replacing. However, they were going to charge me $900 to do it. I've replaced pads and rotors on my own before so I figured I could save some money and just do it myself.
I went to Pepboys, Autozone, and Advance Auto Parts today and none of them carried pads or rotors for my car. They said they could order them but it would be $211 per rotor and $50 or so for pads. Is it just me or is that very high? So I did some googling online and I've found a few sites that have rotors for $80-120 each. That is more like what I was expecting. Is there anything I should be careful about or look out for? Has anyone ever ordered from any of these sites? Does anyone have any recommended websites for ordering brake pads and rotors? www.buybrakes.com www.autopartswarehouse.com www.partsgeek.com |

wow that's steep for just fronts, i just had mine done at a stealership for 1k taxes in got everything but rear rotors changed
oh and check getbmwparts.com great prices always

I think I spent ~$150 a pair for the front (Power Slots), ~$130 a pair for the rear (ECS slotted rotors)? Pads costed me about $350 (Ferrodos) for all 4.
OEM spec rotors and pads should be quite a bit cheaper than that. Look around. Aside from getbmwparts, you can try ECS Tuning and Turnermotorsports too. BTW, I don't recommend Power Slots. They claim to have directional vaning for some rotors. However they don't seem to have it on the 135i rotors I bought. And they are extra heavy even when compared to stock. I won't buy them next time for sure.

That does not sound high to me! Factory rotors are ~$200 each and factory pads are $300. That means your dealer is likely charging less than two hours labor to install the pads and rotors - that is reasonable. Most places charge two hours (times their labor rate). IF you want you can get the BMW Performance drilled and slotted rotors for ~$10 more(each). Don't forget to change (& flush) your brake fluid (DOT4) and your good to go.
Btw... our cars seem to chew thru rear pads at the same time the fronts are worn out. So check those rear pads too!
