New turbos at 81k miles

Took my car in to get the power wire recall and told them my wastegates were rattling. They changed out my turbos with no argument at all at 81k miles.I am very pleased with BMW.

Is this extended warranty on turbos a BMWNA thing only?

This is weird as im am told that my car is not covered under any of the "extended warranties". No HPFP, no waste gates/turbos, nothing. I thought all the N54 had this warranty. Just the battery cable which i wont drive 4 hours to fix. I did notice the fault codes that were stored which is maybe why they changed them in the first place as they are turbo related. From my chat with BMWNA and the dealer they wont change them just from the rattle. There has to be turbo related fault codes. Maybe somebody can shed some more light on this?

Your dealer is incorrect on some counts.

Here is the paperwork for the wastegate rattle. No codes are required for warranty replacement.

He is correct regarding the HPFP code issue- most people experiencing issues with the pump have several codes stored. However, the warranty has been extended on all vehicles that meet the HPFP specifications- 10yr/120k mi, your car included. Here's that documentation.

Feel free to print these out and take these in so he can read himself some knowledge, since he's too lazy to find out the actual information for you.

I purchased my car from a private seller with no existing warranty. These were my fault codes before I dropped it off.

What do you mean by this? I talked to 2 people at BMW NA and mentioned both of the bulletins as well as my issues and was told i was not covered. I was like what!? My HPFP has already been replaced once so how am i not affected? He couldn't answer and just said no im not covered. Idk... When i do take it to the dealer i will print out both of these and see what the SA says.

I find that a lot of times, the people working in the dealerships actually have no idea what they're doing and don't give very much of a shit about you and your experience. Sometimes you'll find great service and sales people who really love BMW and want to put out the best image possible for the brand. But most of the time, it's not.

My guess is that they didn't want to deal with you, made up some shit about your car not being covered, and hoped you wouldn't press any further. ALL of our cars are covered. If you have the crappy HPFP you're covered. If you have BMW's crappy turbos, you're covered.

Are you a "E82/E88 with N54 from start of production" or a "E82/E88 (MY 2008, 2009, 2010) 135i"? That's the exact wording on each bulletin. How the fuck can they say that you're not covered when it's absolutely clear that every N54 E82/E88 is covered? It's RIGHT ON THE DAMN PAPER! I'm personally a very vengeful person so I would make a big stink about it and make sure someone higher up on the BMW ladder knows that your service people bullshitted you. That's just not right of them to do.

Print the bulletins out. Show them to the service people at your dealership. If they still BS you, ask to talk to their managers. If the manager sides with them, ask for their names and positions, and tell them you're going to be talking to BMW NA. Usually this makes them scared enough for their jobs that they'll change their tune before you even have to go back to BMW NA. If not, talk to BMW NA and explain your situation again. Tell them "I have the service bulletins right in front of me, and I can tell you that I am covered. If you do not believe me, please let me speak to someone above you. Also let me know your full name and position so I can let them know who I talked to." 99% of the time, SOMEONE at BMW NA will take care of you because they want you to be a repeat customer. Say "my turbo volvo/audi/whatever doesn't have these problems. if you won't take care of them, I don't think I'll be buying any BMWs in the future." Usually something like that works.

Thats what i thought when i read the paper. My cars falls within those specs and me not being covered sounded absurd! I actually fixed my car in-between waiting on their phone calls with plugs and a coil and it has been running great. I am saving all this and hopefully when i move i will try a different dealer. I think the old fart i talked to at BMW NA just didn't want to deal with me and he got mad when i mention these bulletins by number and description.

You might encounter issue due to the 30fe Overboost code. That is common with a tune and could void the remaining turbo warranty. Just a thought.

They replaced them with the code.I would go wot and my car would boost fine but when I let off the throttle my car would go into limp mode. Then I would have to turn the car off and restart it for it to come out of limp mode. After the new turbos Im not having any problems.
