Evolve-R Tune S1 for 1M - Review
EvolveR S1 tune for 1M N54. Purchased from http://turing-ms.myshopify.com/colle...ducts/evolve-r
My car: 6,000km, MadDad mids & Remus muffler. What's in the black box? - Cable for OBD2 -> USB (nice quality cable) - Liink to download software Installation of software: The software from the download link in the box didn't work for me. I couldn't get the USB drivers loaded and recognising the cable(may have been my laptop though). I had success downloading & installing this version at bottom of the page: http://www.evolvetuning.us/about-us/...n-manuals.html Read ECU & Email file: So hooked it all up to my car and started the ECU read process in preparation to get file to email to Evolve tuners. This process took 60 minutes for me. If you not hooking up to a car trickle charger, then turn off lights, fan etc, iDrive screen etc to conserve battery. Emailed file to Evolve. Need to specify in the email what mods you have on your car, lowest octane you will run, speed limiter removal required, rev limiter increase to 7,200 required. Got it back after a day. Load New Tune file: Stage 1 for 97RON min. I hadn't used the car since the read, so let it run for 10 mins to give the battery a bit of juice. Hooked up cable and laptop again. Load the tune file. 5 mins, all done. You will hear clicks and noises as car resets things. Loading finishes and unplug everything, turn off for 1 min and then start up. Good to Go!! Test drive & initial impressions: The tune is apparent immediately. This is just brutally powerful!! The power delivery is still very linear... the climb from 2-4.5k RPMs is more rapid. It is way more responsive low down, with clear torque increase. Traction control lighting up more so, and need to be progressive with the throttle and really can't even use WOT for more than a second or two. M-button still works. Feels like the delta power increase is right across the rev range, as if the stock curve has simply been copied and pushed up 10%. No codes, oil @ 110, water 107, after 30 mins of hard driving. P3 gauge reading boost of 17.75 So far so good... needs more adaption time too. Thinking that I should have added a tune sooner now. It has definitely improved the car, while retaining the smoothness of factory tune. Great tune Evolve Will dyno Evolve vs baseline on Saturday. Will post results. The previous dyno with just the MadDads gave 247kW (331HP) at the wheels on Dyno Dynamics when the car was a few weeks old (1,500km) Last edited by Ian///M; 08-30-2012 at 05:08 PM. |

Very helpful and well written review, thanks. Also confirms previous good reports about the Evolve tune.
The numbers you had with just Maddads are very good indeed. I am sure it would be even better if you would have done it more recently like after 5000 or so kms. What was the peak torque at your baseline dyno run? |

Dyno today.... thanks to Advan
First runs with Evolve loaded = 266kW rw Second runs with stock loaded = 245kW rw Evolve yields 21kW Must say the drivability feels like more than that. Great tune Last edited by Ian///M; 09-01-2012 at 01:21 AM. |

It IS better than that; they followed my prejudice and did not go for the easy huge boost down low but managed to usefully extend the high end power and keep (as your butt told you!) the linear feel to the power delivery. Beautiful!!

That is a huge increase in area under the curve with the Evolve Tune!
Very nice! Enjoy the new power ![]()

Annoyed that I have to reinstall the PC software every few months because it expires.... Evolve needs to fix this!

Even new 2013 software on their website doesn't work! Why even make it expire is what I don't understand... frustrated

Agreed, but I would rather use the software than the flash unit any day.

No, the software on the laptop expires. The software is needed to load/unload the tune.

Well unloaded the tune today due to dealer visit .... Car felt very slow and less eager and response down with more lag.... Like Ben Johnson without steroids
![]() Thanks Evole for sorting this out
