it really is an apples and oranges comparison to me. people buy cars for different reasons. i think the American muscle "retro" cars look good and sound great but thats not what i wanted. main reason...those big long hoods. Granted...I'm short and could see over them LOL.

in addition...i try to get 6 to 8 track weekends in a year and i think the only dodges i have seen at the track are vipers. that should say something about the other dodge models right???

just my .02

Really? Are we comparing the 1m to a car that has the turning radius of an aircraft carrier?

Of all the American Muscle cars, I like the Challenger the best. I know it's not as fast as the ZL1 or Boss, but I prefer how it looks over all. I thought the article was quite complimentary of the 1M. In the end, it was an emotional choice to pick the Challenger over the 1M, that's ok, a car should 'move' you beyond just the stats. For me the 1M may not be as fast as some cars but it best fits my likes/needs in that $50-55k range like no other car.

There is one Challenger SRT8 in my Condo's parking, near to my place. That and my car are the only special cars under there I can say. Together with new Mustangs it is my favourite look in any American car but I can't imagine myself inside one, well maybe just for a ride. The thing is huge and I can sense its weight from a distance. One must be a real patriot of all things American in order to sincerely choose one over a 1M or any other purposeful performance car.

From one of the comments:
"There is a general opinion here in England that Americans do not understand cars. Article like this are probably the reason. "

Good point, spot on.

My favorite quote:

"The 2011 BMW M Coupe? It starts, runs, accelerates and idles like a vacuum. Sure, it's an expensive, exacting vacuum built by a team of engineers who fully understand sucking. And in the end it's a masterful machine carefully calibrated for sucking precision. But it's so focused on sucking that it's virtually emotionless."

Totally agree. The challenger is the least derivative of the new muscle cars in terms of design. 'If I was into muscle cars and wanted a new one, I would buy one.

That said, I have no idea how the thing drives. Since I've only every owned 'small' European cars, I will probably dislike driving it.

I already have a very comfy couch. I don't need another one with a V8.

The stupidest, most derogatory part of the silly piece was comparing a 1M to a vacumn cleaner. Seems more like the writer "sucks".

Reading the comments below the article is more entertaining then the article itself. Don't forget that most writers have to be creative and opinionated or they don't have a job. I get the impression this one was tugging at his attachments to find an end to the apple to doughnuts article.

I have no problem with someone preferring a muscle car. I can also understand much of the point about the "driving experience".

That said, my impression was that they didn't spend time with DSC totally off, and thus only ever met Dr. Jekyll...

"Will I have any fun driving it home? I don't have time for Mulholland."

"Nah. Unless you drive it hard on the right road it's no different than a 135."

Here's a hint: If you want to see the exact opposite of a 135, a vacuum cleaner, and indeed get flipped off by Prius drivers the answer is quite simple- there is a little button you hold down on the middle of the dash for that.

Anyone else get the impression they never used it? If they had I can pretty much guarantee "vacuum cleaner" is not the object they'd use for comparison...
