Got a week off and a car you love to drive - what do you do?
Starting today, I will be attempting to complete a road trip I've been wanting to do for a very long time. Finally owning such a worthy car, I think it is time to attempt this marathon seat session in the next six days.
An epic car for an epic road trip! The proposed route is linked below. I've got a case of cliff bars and two cases of bottled water, let's see how this goes ![]() https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=204797443961984123656.0004cae0a8aef7f4a9a7 7&msa=0 (2 Pages) ![]() Oh yes.

You probably already left on your trip and I'm not sure if you'll be checking this thread, but I'm interested in knowing what tires you'll be using for the trip. I'm planning a Minneapolis-to-Salt Lake City road trip for next weekend and it's likely that at various points along the route I'll be experiencing temps in the 70s--but also the low 30s or even high 20s at night and early AM. For the Celsius people, that's from around 22 degrees to 0 or slightly below. I don't have all-season tires--just summers and winters--but all-seasons actually seem ideal for this kind of trip.
Looks like a great trip. Have fun and safe travels! I was in Massachusetts and Maine last week and you'll be hitting the leaves right at peak. Can't wait to see pictures! We drove the Dragon on the way home from our Performance Center Delivery in December 2011. Here's a video (audio muted). I sped up the video to show the 318 curves in 3:18. :) It's not the best video (I think because of how I sped up the video), but it's better if you watch it in HD on Vimeo. For anyone who may not be familiar with it, here's a map of the road. https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=U...ra=ls&t=v&z=14 Last edited by ///BYU; 09-30-2012 at 08:00 PM. |

Man, I'd love to road trip through southern Utah. I missed out on that when I was road tripping out West.
I hit waypoint #1 just north of Atlanta. Will head to the tail first thing in the morning. Hopefully a Monday morning will scrub a lot of weekend traffic and leave the road relatively less congested. Unfortunately, the weather forecast looks to have me driving in rain the entire time on the Dragon and Blue Ridge Parkway... son of a! But should clear up if I can make it to NY/VT for leaf peeping. I just have the stock summer tires. I don't expect to hit any extreme temps so hopefully I don't run into any problems!

Should have bought a go pro... for the Tail, I plan on pure, unadulterated, raw naked engine/exhaust notes (with the windows down if it's not raining). The rest of the trip will be shuffling through my top rated tunes playlist and selected road trip Pandora stations based on my mood. For the boring 95 south return shot, two audio books and podcasts.

Tons of BBQ places, lol.
Anyway, I just finished a hair-raising, butt-puckering trip through the Blue Ridge Parkway... at night, in a rainstorm, with 0 visibility on curvy mountain roads. That was not fun. But... this was. 318 OMGs, then O.M.G., then... AGAIN! ![]() PHENOMENAL FUN. If you own a 1M or any superior handling vehicle and you're in the Continental US, you must take on this road. I had just planned to do a couple of runs and be on my way. I ended up staying for five hours going back and forth on that ridiculous road. 1M + Tail of the Dragon (US129) = Cookie Monster in Keebler's house JOY. Crazy.

![]() Love the road trip. My wife and I have done some great ones out west. Southern Utah and Capitol Reef NP are beautiful, especially during the foliage (no, really, there ARE trees within the park). Driving around Loa is awesome. Head over to Canyonlands. Or up to Powder River Basin in Wyoming. Check out Crawford, Nebraska and Ft. Robinson SP. Open road, sun, nice breeze, pine trees. Can always stay at the Ponderosa Ranch.

Ok, recounting this trip properly is taking longer than I thought and free time since I've been back has been pretty limited, but the trip was amazing and I think I got some good shots.
Here are some stats... ![]() ![]() I'll start a new post with pics soon!
