Iphone Mount
Hi All-- I tried to search for this-- how many of you have mounted a device like an iphone in the car? Good solutions?
Anybody try the Kuda mount or the proclip mount? Other better ones? I'd love to see pictures if you can- and thanks Ric |

I just got the Steelie and love it. I bought a second mount for my Pilot. The only downside is that my phone doesn't st flat on a counter or table.

Did you have the mount that fit near the glove box or the one above the cd player? What cradle did you use?

I don't understand the need for a mount. With the Blue Tooth connected it can be any where and be used (I keep mine in the center console). Or you can use the USB connector to play music through the stereo and put it in the pocket below the center console.

Any pictures of your Kuda mount install? There are less than adequate amounts of pictures of them in an e82 online...

I have the Kuda mount, the one that mounts right under the center air vents, this one. No drilling needed, just had to pop the air vents off. There is a metal tab that hides behind the vents, once you pop your vents back in, the mount is on there really good. I then just took some industrial strength velcro, stuck that on there, and took the other velcro and stuck that to back of a cheap clamp mount for a GPS unit from Best Buy. Works great and I can remove the clamp portion of it anytime I want, even rotate it if needed.
I have pictures, but I am at work and photobucket is blocked here. I can post some up later this afternoon for you. EDIT: Here you go, click them for larger pics. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm a big fan of the ProClip USA system. Once you have the base installed (no permanent alteration to the car, but its very solid and looks good if you don't mind losing a little real estate where the vent is) you can update the cradle half any time you change phones, which is really nice.

Just got the Mountek that I ordered. This thing is fricking ingenious! Can't believe it was only $20...it's so solid! I'm not
sure how it would effect the view of the iDrive/Nav display, but for those of us without, it's absolutely perfect in my humble opinion. And, maybe best of all, there is no permanent mount so I can transfer it between cars! 5 stars!

Kuda iPhone mount installation
Just acquired a 2008 135i ragtop (no I-Drive), and after some fussing about realized that I couldn't play my iPhone (4S) Pandora or iPod music through Bluetooth. Keeping the phone under the armrest was a non-starter, too hard to get it out to do nav or check mails at a stoplight.
So I got the I-Link Bluetooth adapter (here) Pleased to report that it works well, and does not interfere with any of the native Bluetooth phone functions. The only thing missing is the track selection in iPod and the artist and title information from iPod or Pandora, which appeared on my radio display when I was using the Y-cable connected directly to the phone. I don't miss that too much. Then the question was how to mount the phone itself? I looked around and settled on the Kuda mid dash mount (here) - it looks like part of the car, and doesn't block any air vents or other equipment. I did not have to drill any holes, and it's very likely that I could remove that mount in 2 years without it leaving any mark at all on the car. For the phone holder itself, I went cheap - the Arkon visor mount (here), and cut off the bottom portion to mount on the front of the Kuda: ![]() Installation was easy - I used a hard plastic spatula to pop out the air vents, top center seems to be a good place to pry: ![]() The metal tab inside the lower edge of the Kuda mount tucks behind the woodgrain trimpiece, the metal tab at the top wraps around the vent opening: ![]() Position is critical - that top metal tab must fit into one of the large spaces between the air vent mouting ears: ![]() Pop the vents back in and you're done! I can slip the Arkon phone clip directly on the mount or use the ball joint that came with it for more flexible positioning. ![]() Works great! Last edited by MFTonymax; 11-07-2012 at 10:31 AM. |
