EXCESSIVE Leather Wear At 2 1/2 Months !!

I never had this issue with any of my previous BMW's. This ONE, of course is financed and not a Lease. I understand that the WHOLE seat cover has to be removed. : ((

That's the exact same spot where many 1ers wear. It's because of getting in and out of the car. I try to just watch out when I get in or move the seat back a little. It still sucks though

I think BMW customer service should take a look at this thread. They really need to prevent this from happening.

I complained when mine started, even though I always move the seat back when I get in and out of the car. The service manager proceeded to show me how I was supposed to get in my car and when I showed him that I had the second memory setting for all of the way back and that is how I got in and out he said he would fix it for me this time only.

What they do is have a guy come in and smooth the leather a bit before they paint it. Yes, you heard me correctly. They air brush the seat to match the color. As the color in the leather has faded a bit I can see the small spot where they painted it but it isn't really noticeable.

I had a very similar issue with Coral Red. Entire seat cover was replaced after factory rep authorization. The second cover has shows no wear after 16 months. Rumor is that leather quality has improved (mine is 2008 launch car) but maybe not...

This is common with Boston leather. Happened on my 1er in less than a year and on my E90 as well. My SA said this is very common and all they can do is paint it.

It happened on my 3 series. It is most likely your belt is rubbing on the seat when you get in/out of the car. BMW replaced the leather on my seat, no touch up; they did the whole back seat cover. After that I made sure I did not rub the seat getting in/out. I have had a Z4 and 135i since then and no issues.

I don't wear a belt. Also, I pretty much always wear pants thet are 100% cotton and on the soft side.

Our 09 looks brand new. The dealer should have it repaired or replaced. A good Leather Dye guy will make it look like new

EXACTLY the issue my car is showing at 3-4 months of age. Car only has 5400 miles. I took it to the dealer yesterday and the services manager came out with a digital camera, snapped some shots, and told me that they would forward them to BMW engineering.

I am a very picky individual and I am very careful when getting in and out of the car. This being said, I KNOW for a fact that it is not me rubbing against the bolster when getting in and out of the car. After much thought, I think I found what could be causing the problem - the seatbelt is constantly rubbing against this edge while on, given that BMW decided to attach the bottom part of the seatbelt behind the seat, which causes the belt to rub.

I would assume that a long term solution would be to wrap the lower part of the seatbelt with something soft that will prevent this from happening again. The short term solution will probably be a respray of the leather as some people mentioned, or replacement of the seat cover. I'm pushing for the second option given that my car is so new and I am so meticulous...but who knows, I'm still waiting to hear from them.

yes, they should replace the seat!! Luckily my car with 12,000 miles has NO wear...Maybe there is some correlation with folks that have very wide asses and are continually rubbing them on this part of the seat getting in and out of the car?? Or possibly a abrasive belt,....changing a seat cover is a piece of cake...it will look perfect when they are finished.

Nothing a little duct tape won't hide

Happens on mine too, especially on the passenger's side. I'm thinking of designing an alcantera or heavy rawhide patch for it, kind of like the elbows on shooting jackets, that I can velcro on there and replace as needed. Probably wouldn't even need to replace the bolster section with velcro, you can probably just fashion small hogrings inserted into the creases to hide the method of attachment.

If I can come up with something I'll post it up. If not, out comes the duct tape. It would make a neat statement, don't you think? Bring it into the dealer like that at your next service
