Want to upgrade stereo in 2010 135i Coupe
I'm pretty sure my car only has four speakers. I know it did not come with the upgraded HK system that's an option from the factory that I believe adds tweeters in the doors by the side mirrors. Not looking for crazy base or anything just really crisp and loud enough that i can hear the music with the windows down without having to turn the stereo volume to full blast mode.
Has anyone upgraded the speakers in there coupe? Would you trust the guys at per say Best Buy to work on your car? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, JSal. |

Based on what you are looking for I would suggest the following (relatively) simple solution. First, get the tweeter pods for the doors. You can find the part # on realoemparts.com. Then go on eBay and get a couple BMW 4" Logic7 speakers and the Logic7 tweeters. These speakers should be plug-n-play for you existing speaker wires and are a little bit better than the base speakers in your car. Replacing the speakers is pretty simple, but I wouldn't trust a big box store to do the work. You can find a video on how to remove the door panel, etc. on YouTube. Search for BSW speaker installation. There's a two part video for the 1 series. Instead of replacing the head unit, I would get a JBL MS-8. A member on this forum makes a harness that you can use to connect the OEM wiring to an aftermarket amplifier. Again, pretty much plug-n-play. His member name is Technic. The MS-8 will clean up the sound and have plenty of power to drive the Logic7 speakers. In addition, the MS-8 will allow you to expand your system if you decide at a later date to add a subwoofer, center channel, additional amps, etc. Check it out.

Just get the BMW Alpine Hifi Retrofit Kit.
Simple. Plug'n'play. Sounds great. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=505654 ![]()

I am sure that there are car audio specialist in your area. I took my car to Car Toys and they replaced all the speakers and added door tweeters. My factory speakers had paper cones. Obviously the sound is much improved. It even puts the HK system to shame.
