Continental or Pirelli

hi folks good morning.

i am coming for a bit of advice to choose tires for my 130i. I am from Mexico and here the known brands are usually expensive (very), however I have the oportunity to get me a set of either continental contisportcontact2 tires or pirelli pzero rosso for the same price and very cheap (about USD 800). for that i can only get the cheaper brands like kumho, hankook, and many chinease which are not in my sight as I want a premium tire and need to decide whether go german or italian.

I will appreciate your inputs here.

kind regards,
Mauricio

Conti SportContact2 and P Zero Rosso are old tyre designs now.

Don't discount Hankook if you can get hold of the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2, which came 3rd in a recent European tyre test, only beaten by the Pirelli P Zero and Goodyear F1 Asymetric 2 but ahead of the Michelin PSS which came 4th!!

Hi indeed I could but the shipping and customs completely offset the price advantage.

I will look into the S1 Evo2 but that is a rare tire here.

like I said, i know those are old designs but my car is from those old days too (LOL). tires used by Porsche and Ferrari, they couldn't be thata bad, could they?

will post my decision some time before the year ends.

I would go with the Conti SportContact2's. I've had them on some other cars and they are decent tires. Everytime I buy Pirelli's they seem to dry rot or have quality control (like sounding like a bad wheel bearing) issues down the road.

I would also check the "build date" on the tire sidewall. Tires are only "good" for five years... so don't buy some tire that has been sitting on the shelf for years. The build date is a four digit number with the week & year the tire was made.

more info on tire build dates...

Hi guys good night. I finally decided to go with Pirelli. My wife has ContiSportContact 1's on her E46 320i and thought I may try the pirellis. After all a tire that used to came standard on Porsches and Ferraris should not be bad. I just daily drive it and don't track it and for the occassional spirited driving I really think they should be just fine.

Here a couple of pics

I am very excited to mount them but I am trying to pre-sell the set I currently have as it has plenty of live. I will share my views on these tires.
