I have an idea for the lower grille.

before i buy the required items here is a horrible Photoshop attempt

I picked a white car since its very clear & drastic. Plus if it looks bad in white it might in other colours.

I will use some BMW parts, I will list them.

Here is what I got
part number 51117166605

The grille from the 118d/i e87 LCI W/O foglights
it will need to be cut on each side but should be a clean look. i haven't decided if i will paint the fangs

Compare to 128i stock grille:

An alternative exists, but i didnt want to risk due to shape of bumper. The tabs do seem to line up...

It would look nice but doesn't add much in my opinion.

The only mod I have done with the bottom grill would be painting it gloss black to match my kidney grills. Subtle but makes it pop

Yes its subtle, and i do plan on painting my euro grille gloss or satin black. Not sure about the fangs yet.

Look at the Tirerack advertisement, the 128i coupé seems to have it painted, but that's only an effect

Was it hard to take off lower grille?

Its a pain in the ass... your best bet would be to locate the tabs. (I believe there to be 8 in all) and do it from the front side. To get to the rear you have to take out the underbelly cover.

I ended up using painters tape for the tiny grills under the fogs.

Shipped out from the UK, cant wait to examine to see if its worth paining. I saw a pic of a white e87 with the fangs painted.
I think the end result will at least make the front look more narrower.

UPDATE: Delivered! Will post pics this weekend, and think about mounting.

The paint is holding up really well. No issues with peeling or coming off and I have had it on for almost 2.5 years. The subtleness is great, and brings a bit of extra contrast to the front.

I forgot exactly what I used... I would look for an "outdoor plastic furniture spray" in gloss black. I think the primer was already mixed in the can. Then give a nice even coat

Some food for thought; I've always wanted to black out the lower and create this big gape (no white bars/teeth next to the fogs). Might be too much but since I just bought a 135i front, I think I might wanna try it since I miss my fogs.

I hope that's a compliment. I admit thought that I am lagging: I am yet to show completed e87 Mtech replica splitters( need bondo to seal the cuts & paint) and now this grille( possible paint & cutting).

Your idea is how the 116i/118i looked with the grille painted on baby bmw or 1er-fourm.de hence why I jumped on it. Then I saw in a russian tv show the e87 in red with non painted grille and I had to buy it.

But you would lose fog lights unless you had a cutout for them. Then its not so clean looking anymore?

I do admit that it does look very nice! But I enjoy my fogs
