Garage List
2003 Subaru WRX  [0.00]
1988 BMW 325is  [0.00]
2008 BMW 135i  [0.00]
It's interesting that Autocar would go ahead and call it the new M1 instead of the new 1M.

Rather have the current M135i hatch(even though it's not a 'real' M car.

Also, I would never buy a front drive M car. Call me old fashioned.

Very juicy. Just don't mess around with any foolish FWD ideas. That would be a shame.

other FWD cars will be built on the same platform. The 1 ( now 2 series) will be RWD. A 4 dr is definitely needed in my opinion.. and a 4 dr baby M would be a like a new E36 M3/4 in size, weight, and power likely..

BRING IT!

Difficult to make a baby M that doesn't challenge the M4/3. We saw that with the 1M vs E9x M3. Making it a FWD 4 cylinder will keep it in it's market segment with Golf R's etc.

Should be exciting, but RWD/AWD is only option for a true M car IMO

+1. I'm totally with you Metak, but part of me wonders IF bmw might play the xDrive card with the new M2. THAT(AWD xDrive)would be mind blowing for a M-car.

Is this a reputable magazine? No disrespect to our UK brethren, but some of their rags are as bad as ours when it comes to sensationalism and speculation for the sake of sales.

As to a 4 cylinder or a FWD...meh...I'm sticking with my 1M.

I hope you're correct. Would love to have a winter capable M car (M truck not so much).

4cylinders, FWD: Great rumors for those of us owning a 1m :-)
Prices of our 6309 babies should not drop too much...

A 4-cylinder engine appears plausible.
However, i am not trusting at all the fwd story, at least for the current f20 series.

make it 4 Cylinder Turbo with ~320hp. make it RWD. make it look like the render.

You will sell them all.

That is a dynamite render. I love the idea of a four door small M car.

The only things I would change:

1. Connect the headlights to the grill like the F30 3 Series

2. Get rid of the 'winglet' that crosses the air intake in the front. Kind of like how the X5 has it and the X5M does not.

X5

X5M

No way you are old fashioned. RWD is always up to date for those whole loves and fond of driving.
