Please elaborate. IMHO it is better to steer clear from a cut-and-weld operation re the N54 mids (removal of the secondary cats), if that's what you plan to do.

Got to check the exact price, but from recollection, for the price of one set of N54 mids you can buy 4 or 5 sets of N55 mids. The reason: secondary cats ain't cheap. Don't castrate those dangly bits. Save yourself the hassle, install N55 mids (moreover it's an OEM BMW part) and keep the stock N54 mids for future re-installation purposes (you might be required to re-install N54 mids on resale day - buying those will hurt your wallet). N55 mids are also cheaper than Maddad mids.

TRACKING ... I have to look in to the price on the N55 Mids; I made a premature statement based on the idea that everything BMW sells is expensive as hell. I'm getting ready to put Cat-less DP's on, and I'm currently rocking the Berk Race axle back (which I hate); so I'm thinking about doing a custom MP or the N55 mid if the price is reasonable.

Almost two years ago when I bought my N55 mids they were 330 euros from my Germany dealer(w/o tax). When the 2011's N55 cars came out the N55 mids were over 400 euros. I think they are now under 300 euros for the N55 mids. You should get new front and rear exhaust gaskets and those bolts/springs - just to be safe when doing your install. That will add about another 60 euros in hardware and gaskets.

The 1M mid pipe with secondary cats is over 2,100 euros!

N55 (no secondary cats) = BMW part # 18307599743
For the OEM bolts and gaskets part #, see these earlier posts of Dackel:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...02&postcount=8
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...1&postcount=16

Call around for the N55 midpipes because some sellers over-charge. Normal price is sub $400.

If you also change downpipes, the ECU will throw codes at you (detecting the absence of primary cats) which you need to deal with (no such thing if you only change mids) + might result into undesirable results (too loud, too smelly, trouble with authorities and neighbors). See for example:

Arrow original 1M mid pipe dummy resonator...

I think I found a pic(s) of the factory 1M mid pipe resonator cut open. Like my German buddy told me... he sold his OE 1M mid pipe to a guy wanting a louder exhaust... so he cut open the resonator and was going to make a "straight pipe". But to his surprise... THAT is exactly what BMW had already done! So now we know why the stock exhaust drones a little bit!

Here are the pics I found on the web...

Amazing, BMW got us blonde poodles inside our 1M resonators.

Actually, matches well with the "BMW Performance VO Steering Wheel Winter Cover".

Great pics, Dack.

Have we confirmed if either the non-M N54 midpipes or the N55 midpipes have similar resonator construction?

I have not seen anyone posting pics like that to confirm. But I did take a picture of the INSIDE of my N55 mid pipe resonator... and the inner pipe did have perforation holes drilled into the inner pipe of the resonator.

IF anyone wants to cut up their stock n54 resonator... I would love to see whats inside the can/box!

Based on that picture it seems likely that the N55 midpipe is a traditional resonator, which would make sense seeing as how it cures the drone issue on the 1M (plus a small bump in HP due to the lack of cats).

Great work as always, Dack!
