My BMW iPhone app and OEM alarm

When I lock/unlock my car with the fob, the alarm system is also armed/disarmed.

If the car has been locked/armed with the fob and then I use the My BMW iPhone app to unlock it, the car unlocks/disarms.

However, if I then use the My BMW app to re-lock the car, the doors lock but the alarm is not activated. In order to activate the alarm, I have to go back to the fob again.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, is it functioning as designed, i.e., is the iPhone app not able to control the OEM alarm system?

Yep and it clearly states that in the App

Thanks, tccox - where did you find this info in the app? I'm probably just blind, but I can't find any "how to" instructions in it.

Actually, no; I don't have navigation or iDrive and it works with my car:

Not sure why the link doesn't work for you; I just clicked it again and it took me straight to the My BMW app page on the iTunes website.

looks like it uses bmw assist. I suspect my account is no longer active as I am out of warranty.

I just saw what you're referring to in the screen cap on iTunes; however, I don't get that message when I go to the lock/unlock screen (I only get the two padlock icons and the <-> slider). Thanks for the heads-up.

Pretty cool feature. How do you program the phone to your car? Would be a cool feature if you took your keys somewhere and a family member needed to unlock the car.

You download an app on the phone and register your car and phone with the service. There is a charge for it but it would be cool. Just not sure how often I would use it. I think it also will start the car.

Interesting...when i did it, it was free. Sadly though it won't start my car as I have a manual it requires pushing the clutch in.

Only certain features available for the 1 series so cannot start car with app. One sorta cool but sorta worthless feature you can use the google search feature to search for a resturant and send the results to even our non nav, non idrive cars.

Too bad that BMW and Apple are in bed together. My Galaxy S3 won't even work with the bluetooth connection, you have to have an iPhone.

Where did you get the email address from? From BMW when you bought the car? I downloaded the app but dont know if i even have an account lol

Huh? Is that a new thing? My Razr works with my '08 and I don't have Idrive or Nav but do have Bluetooth. My USB works also but can't stream music through it...just do ring tones and useless crap as far as I've found.

I only wish the car finder piece of the app works greater than 1.5mi. It's an artificial software limitation...

And I hear you guys on the lack of bluetooth music streaming...

BMW asked me for an email address when I made my "welcome call" (as the dealer referred to it) to BMW Assist, and that's the address I used with the app.
