They stole my badge :(

So I come home after being away for work for 3 weeks, and my M badge is gone

They left behind some dental floss or string for me though. How nice; at least they didn't mess up the paint or use a metal object.

The sad part is that my car is parked in the owner restricted garage below my building.

I guess I'll take it as a compliment that the didn't steal the S4 badge that parks beside me, lol.

Does anyone know if the dealer should be able to order a replacement? I just want it to look like it did before. I'm not too into DIY, and they left behind all the adhesive so it's like a shadow black M outline... with dental floss.

Get some goo-gone. Apply it onto to the adhesive.....let it sit for a minute or two....then wash it off with soap.

Go to the dealer and buy a new one. It's always good to learn to DIY yourself sometimes.

Sorry this happened.....I bet you'll find it on a Honda Civic or some BMW 318i lol

Look on the bright side, you're probably the first 1 M to be debadged, voluntarily or un-voluntarily.

Perhaps as a community service once you've cleaned up the adhesive you can post a pic for those of us curious as to how it looks debadged.

I would get some of 3M's Specialty Adhesive Remover. It comes in a spray can or in a 1L metal can. IF you have a MATOS autobody supply shop near you... you can also buy it there. 3M's Specialty Adhesive Remover is made just for removing this sort of stuff that is left over when a badge or door trim piece comes off.

or...

Btw... I don't think you are the first 1M to have its badge stolen. I seem to remember a thread last year where a one month old 1M had its badge pried off with a screw driver and he had to have the trunk lid repainted.

It is amazing that they took great care to remove it without damaging the paint. It could have been worse.

yup could of been a lot worst. some vandals took the roundel off my e36 M3 with a screwdriver and scratched the paint. I wouldn't of been so mad if they didn't scratch the hood.

just be happy there is no damage. good luck with the DIY its not hard at all

It could have been worse for sure.

I think I'll try the 3M remover if I can find it around here. It looks like Canadian Tire might even have it, haha.

Maybe a pic or two later on, but it's pretty dusty down there at the moment.

Careful with the adhesive remover, it can also strip wax and sealant. Stick with the Goo Gone, it'll get the job done and is much easier on wax.

Make sure you use a high quality microfiber cloth. Otherwise you may mar your paint.

I'll echo about the 3M stuff. It is really aggressive. But boy does it do the job.

Mine has been voluntarily debadged for some months... Looks better IMO. They did you a favour removing that crappy plastic ///M

I passed a guy the other day in a silver 135i vert with an M badge on his trunk. It did trigger a double-take. I reckon he bought the badge.

I still remember seeing an Accord with a body kit that had a GT-R emblem from the R33/R34 Skyline on the trunk. My wife had to keep me from walking over and saying something to the guy getting out of it in the parking lot.

Sorry they took the emblem, but at least they did it without damaging the paint.

Well yes, but anytime you debadge and use a cleaner like 3M or even use Goo Gone... one should (always)prep the surface and put a fresh coat of wax on the effected area. The 3M cleaner IS safe to use on painted surfaces.

FWIW, DSCPLN had the M keyed off when his car was only 3 days old and it damaged the paint. I remember because it occurred at a mall local to me. Not sure why he deleted the pics (and text): http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=694138
