In 2008 before the reliability problems the 135 was given a score of 98 by CR.

And a 5/5 by Jeremy Clarkson. And was pretty much called the best thing since sliced bread by the rest of the automotive press.

Those were good times...

Still good times! I haven't gotten my battery recall notice yet..it would be #3 I think for this car???? It just means another loaner I get to play with. Every time I return a loaner for my car it feels like I'm taking delivery all over again.

I have had in the past all kinds of M cars,E36 M3,E46 M3, E92 M3,V-10 M5, and if the 135i is not the best BMW, it could very well be. Its the BMW I have most enjoyed owning and driving, it always keeps amazing me how responsive it is,how solid its built,feels like a vault, how pure BMW are its lines. The only one I have not had,,a E30 M3, which from what I have read is BMW at its purest form.The only comparable BMW of the ones I have driven is my very first BMW, a 1974 2002 tii. But in my book,my 135i is tops.

CR also says that the reliability of the 128i is above average, while the 135i has improved to average.

It really is worth buying this Consumer Reports edition each year. Almost every car on the market is in it and it's cool to compare the different reviews for each vehicle class.

The 128i really isn't in it... again, the 128 gets forgotten and left out. If the 128 is 'based' on the 328 then wouldn't the 328's 'numbers' be more appropriate than the 135 when comparing the two?

Its funny how BMW just took the gripes that us early adopters had in 2008 and 2009 and turned them into a new car.

ie we wanted the 135 to have.

-Tighter Suspension
-Wider track for fitting real wheels and tires
-LSD
-Power Bump

The 1M is basically a [Fixed] version of the 135 - which was already great to start with, so to those of us in the know from the beginning, the 1M's success was nothing short of expected

LSD was never going to happen on the non M. Last time did was with the E36 compact.

It's too bad the 1M didn't get the engine they originally had slated for it which was a 360hp S54. That would have been utter perfection if they had gotten it past emissions. I definitely would have snagged one.

That wouldn't be very smart. Why would you spend all that time fitting a new engine in for just 20HP more? And 100TQ less??!

Sure if they have new engine that NA with as much TQ as the 1M sure great go for it. Other wise you'd be stupid to want a 360HP S54 in the 1M.

I'll stick with my N54T thanks.

That was the original plan from BMW. Everyone knows the weak link of the 1M is the engine which hardly lives up to what a proper M engine is. And I've had torque loaded BMWs before, it was part of the reason I sold it.

And seeing as S54 engines make 330whp with minor bolt ons, I can only imagine where a proper set of cams and some factory R&D could take you.

Perfect! I wish I searched out a CPO one myself but I had my perfect car sitting there and I couldn't pass it up. Got my '10 with 24k on the clock and I just hit 37xxx. I think my HPFP is about to go but I already have an apt with the dealer in a few days.

Yeah, I did my research... Knew I wanted a 2010 for whatever reason haha. And oh I will take care of it. Im changing oil today (even tho the stealership said they just changed it). I dont trust anyone working on my car really if its something simple I can do myself. I haven't read through all of the stickies yet so this question is probably answered elsewhere but what oil are you guys running? I assume just same spec and approved oil for e46? I've been running mobil 1 0w-40 on my 330.

And while theyre at it they shouldve put an S65 in there because its lighter than the S54 and the N54.

And with the way BMW is going the N54 actually perfectly matches the description of proper M engine, theyre just changing their definition of proper.

Im aware. LSD was an optional part of the cold weather package on most BMWs up until the middle-end of the E36.

Its a stupid move when a 22K V6 Mustang has one, but whatever, its what theyve decided.




Scott also said a lot of other things during 1M development that didnt come true - 1M vert comes to mind.
