Short answer: yes, but only for failures that BMW can reasonably assert were due to the non-stock pieces.

So a motor-related failure, probably yes. A tranny problem, likely not.

but so many people that owns the 1m are upgrading the intercooler and chargepipe, does this mean that all these owners are voiding their warranty?

so what you are saying is a part from the chargepipe went into one of the cylinders that caused damage? so this warranty problem should result from an aftermarket part being the issue?

What I'm saying is that BMW is denying Parker's warranty claim based on the fact that he installed an aftermarket charge pipe. They claim the cylinder failure was caused by him dropping a screw or something which entered the cylinder...interesting read but a warning to all of us modders. That's why I haven't done any major mods, all surface mods so to speak.

Is BMW's claim bullshit as MDORPHN says? Don't know but don't want to find out..

Really sorry, Dan. Of course, complete bs. Even if bolt dropped in intake, there's no way a bolt could travel through the turbos and intercooler and then through the intake manifold and head into cyl. 6!

so why are so many people modding? do they not care about their warranty? i am sure if anything was to go wrong it would be expensive to fix without warranty. or what if something goes wrong god forbid, couldnt i just put back the stock chargepipe and then take it in for warranty work?

Some are modding their new 1Ms due to deep pockets, some don't care, many just roll the dice and think it won't happen to them. Most probably have an emergency parts swap planned in case something shitty happens. I guess that's why I take my car on the track...I pray that it won't happen to me....

Pretty much all cosmetic except exhaust: rear CF spoiler, 19" Alufelgen wheels, custom front license bracket, black grills, fire extinguisher, euro foglamp switch, cargo net, Xpel Ultimate paint protection, blackline tails, black side markers, intake scoops, "moved" OBDII port, track decals, Bastuck exhaust.

Soon to add lighted M5 shift knob, oil catch can, DCI, LEDs, Valencia Orange AP racing calipers and disks and a front CF spoiler. Future: would love to install KW with DCC, Lojack tracker, ECU mods, intercooler and DPs but am waiting for the right moment for those as I just went past year one of my 2-year German warranty.

Where are you from in FL?

I've taken my car into the German dealer and had them do warranty work, no issues so far. It might void any exhaust warranty...maybe cats...hopefully not turbos.... but don't think it would affect engine and tranny ect...

Personally i don't mod won't i can't afford to fix. Just like i don't track what i can't afford to write off. ive seen plenty of people who get put into bad financial positions b.c of motors grenading; etc.

Simple stuff doesn't void mods. Like Exhaust; etc.
Also the dealer u do ur servicing with makes a huge difference.

If u are worried about warranty stuff, go with dinan. But be ready to pay almost double.

I doubt a dealer will have much of an issue with an upgraded FMIC or BOV. They mainly hate downpipes and tunes.

Technically you aren't really voiding your warranty anyways, it's just that your car will be entered into their database as modded and warranty work will be denied. Some who modify claim the Moss-Magnuson Act, etc. protects them. These people claim that the dealer has to prove your mod was the cause of the issue. That may be true once you take the dealer/manufacturer to court but who really wants to have to do that. In the short term the warranty work would still be denied.

My FBO modded 135 has been entered into BMW's database as modded and not eligible for suspension or drivetrain warranty work since the first time I went in for regular maintenance. It did cause me a little hassle trying to get an HPFP replaced before the recall occurred. Fortunately my car is now 4 yrs old and off the warranty (other than the HPFP) and I never had any issues.

I guess the mentality behind most modders is they really don't think anything will go wrong. And if it does, it just means they now can do even more mods. Now that my car is 4 yrs old, it's getting about time for me to replace/mod some of my worn parts anyways including bigger turbos (Rob Beck, etc), M style front bumper, lightweight battery, etc!

Btw, have you heard an N54 with a dual cone intake, exhaust mods, etc but without a BOV. They still make tons of turbo noises, plenty to me, but of course a BOV, etc is a personal preference thing.

Depends on where it was installed, I had the axleback of my exhaust written down as not installed by BMW(a BMW Performance Exhaust) and therefore not under BMW warranty... And then they fixed it under Good Will. (Still not sure what broke to be quite honest.) This exhaust exemption on my warranty didn't change anything because the next week they replaced my turbos for wastegate rattle.(which is definitely related to the exhaust)

How would a bolt or screw in CP wouldn't go through turbos and FMIC. ... It would get sucked straight in. All sounds like BMW BS though.

This is what you do:

Something wrong? Go back to stock and then BMW will warranty it. Then put your mods back on. That's what everyone is doing. Simple.

Corollary: Deny mods if they suspect them, act like an idiot if they ask where things were installed/what was installed, etc.
