First oil change on diesel engine - black oil
Hi guys, I checked the oil on my 123d today and was quite surprised. It has done 8200km. The oil was practically black. The level was good. This is my first BMW and my first diesel. I know the diesels use synthetic oil. Is this normal - the colour that is. I was expecting a light brown colour as per my previous petrol engines. I don't think I am going to wait until the scheduled service is due in another 10000km.

Trust me. It is normal. It is the soot and carbon that cause the oil to turn black straight away. It shows the oil is doing its job.
