Questions about start-up
So I am curious as to the process of the engine when the car is turned on. What does it do? Here's what I noticed:
The RPMs idle at 600 and it takes about 60 seconds. What I wanna know is if your car takes the same amount of time? and if it idles at 600 as well? Maybe if there is deviation it could be a way to detect other things.

When I start mine (135), it revs quite high (warm or cold), and then settles back to about 600. But when it's warm and I come to a stoplight, the idle will often jump up to 900 or so, and then settle back, or jump once again. The exhaust tips are a little greasy as well - all making me think the computer is off, making the car run rich and uneven. I took it to the dealer a couple of weeks ago, but they said it was normal. Does anyone (or everyone?) have this issue?

Gooby Pls.

Mine starts out at 1000-900ish rpms and settles down to 6-700 where it idles when warm. The cold intensifies the process.

When you first start the engine, the vehicle starts in whats called "open loop". This is a feature of the obd2 system in which the engine controls the vehicle in a very inefficient manner that is intended to pollute as little as possible while warming the engine and the catalytic converters up to operating temperature. The engine is run at a higher rpm to accomplish this in less time because open loop is very bad on both gas and power. When the engine rpm drops down to normal (600-700 rpm) the vehicle goes into closed loop, which is the normal operating parameters of the engine.
