and trunk brake light popped out. Are the dealers covering this as a known defect or do they charge for it?

My car was 1 whole year and 30000 Km out of warranty when it's AC compressor and evaporator failed. Before paying my almost 3000$ bill for a new compressor and evaporator, my dealer told me he will send a letter to BMW "Germany in my case" to ask if a special discount can be done... 1 week later we got an answer, and boy, that answer made me love BMW as I never have before. They gave me 80% discount on costs and labor. Can you believe it?
