Good looks, relatively cheap price (I paid $200 a wheel during a TR sale), and 17lb weight.

You cant do much better than that. Only downside is theyre a bit common.
I used to have a set as well a few years back. I would agree, a great looking wheel and a great price. I thought they were very durable as well.

Disagree. 18" look bling and pointless.

I couldn't agree more and Michi's are nice.

I've done way too much research on 17" square setups...with a former rallycar owner/driver's perspective, A square 17", durable, non-bling setup for a 135 with m suspens:

Here's my winter setup 17x7.5-40, Sport Edition SE16, hubcentric (no rings), 20#, and $121ea. with 205/50-17 snows. no sensors, 30.8 lighter than stock 18/run craps. I've run this setup on rough frozen lakes, rally-x, and shit dirt roads, seems to be very durable.

In the summer, I'm thinking of going to 17x8-40, Bremmer Kraft BR07, centering rings, 21#, $141ea. with Toyo RA1 (or maybe R1R) 235/40-17, 26.8# lighter than stock.

Can't beat the French for tires. Every time I try something else I am disappointed.

Those look like an excellent lower cost option. I think it is going to have to be the BBS RGRs for me though as 40.4 lbs saved over the stock wheels/RFTs is a simply absurd unsprung performance boost.

In what size? What tire/size? The BBS-RGR #RG719 17x8-40 at 17.2 is surely light. At $550ea...wow, not cheap.
Another one I considered was Enkei PF01, 17x8.5-40, 18lbs, $261ea. Two sets of Enkei wheels for the price of one set of BBS RGRs!

That would be the ones. Good things usually aren't cheap.

Factory MSport at the moment.

TCK coilovers with full M3 conversion in the future.

I've been looking for 17" CSL style wheel to put on my 128i. When I look at the BBS website I see the RG-R 719h but not 716h. Not trying to give you a hard time but trying to understand your mods and where your head's at -- and possibly piggyback on some of the research you've done.

Looks like I made a typo, should be 719h.

My mod focus is retaining all daily drivability while upgrading in a fashion that complements the focus of the car while retaining a performance balance. I also refuse to use components that are either worse than stock or made in China/equivalent.

The 17" BBS RGR wheels with PSS are a 40.4lb reduction in unsprung weight over stock, offer significant rotational inertia benefits over 18" or 19" wheels, provide excellent ride quality, allow the tire to flex to maximize grip, and are 8000 ton forged(making them the strongest wheel option). They also provide bolt on perfect fitment with no rolling, spacers, camber, rings, or other work to get them on.

Hey Stig, Can you please post a new pic of your car? I like to see it with your new wheels.

+1. Horses for courses and all that.

Since this is a thread about 17" wheels, I'll point out that the 2nd gen (2001-2004) 996 Carrera came standard with 17x7 fronts and 17x9 rears. So did the 1st gen, by the way.

As soon as Tirerack and I sort out our stuff. They initially sent the wrong TPMS sensors and we have been working to fix it since.

And now the GT3 comes with 20"s and is an automatic with a standard block. How the mighty have fallen.

Bump for more pics of 17s!

I'd really like to see some ARC-8s from the group buy.

Smallest wheels that fit over the brakes is the way to go, from a functional perspective. Financial sense too.

Sadly APEX doesn't make a good 17" fitment for our cars. Given the trends here, I can understand why, but it still sucks.

I'd love to buy some Apex 17" rims, but the offsets aren't what I want - For either E90 or E82 application!

You should be able to run 17x8.5 with a 245/40 right?

Some front camber and maybe a slight rear roll? That's not too big of a deal.

The front offset is good, and the rear isn't off by much.

You have the same problems with most 17s. 17x8/8.5, vast majority of them being 40mm. But they work with minimal effort.

Agreed. If they made them at this point I wouldn't mind for some winters over the stock boat anchors.

Why would I want to? I have perfect fitment with the BBS wheels and 235 square is perfect for ~300hp.
