Custom Ordering the 1er

Would it be more expensive, less expensive, or equal to custom order a 128i compared to picking one off the lot?

Same exact price. The good thing is, you get to avoid options you don't want. The only negative is that dealers might be willing, eventually, to deal on cars that are on the lot.

So you're saying in order to get a good deal (like invoice) you should get one on the lot.

I initially was thinking that the only way to get the 135 I want was through special order....leather , auto, thats it in Jet black/coral....since then, the premium package grew on me, so with all the BMW dealers here in Dante's Inferno, I figure that I have a decent chance in finding this combo.....

IMO, when you special order, you do get EXACTLY what you want. However, you may lose some bargaining leverage, which depending on when you plan to order may be meaningless anyway....I anticipate all 135s on the lot selling at full MSRP for 6 months.....also, Irv on this board advised me about 90 days from order to delivery.....not so bad.....

I'm sure that some folks on this board will share my opinion that this car MAY sell for invoice a few months before redesign.....years from now.....

Yea...The way I see it though, I want a 128i!! It seems like mostly everyone wants a 135i. I don't really think that the 135i comment pertains to me. Do you have the same opinion on the 128i custom ordering?

My personal opinion (meaningless) is that you'll have more leverage with a 128....my apology, I did not read your original post thoroughly enough to realize your interest in the 128......I think the 135 will outsell the 128 handily.....

I agree...I'm hoping to get a good deal on one. I won't buy the car until August of 2008, so I have about 6 months for fire to die down.

The price will be the same, why not order it exactly the way you want with all the options. you should be able to do that next month from what I was told.

I'm on the fence of whether to put my deposit down and have the car 2nd Qtr of next year or wait and hope that I can get a better deal several months after it is released.

I have a feeling that the 135 will be selling for MSRP for at least the entire 1st year of production. I'm not sure how many of you knew of the supply and demand problem was for the new Civic Si but I think it will go the same way. People were paying over MSRP or MSRP for the 06 into the 07 year.

Is it true they are going to limit production to roughly 20,000 for the 1st year?

thats what i was worried about. I was thinking the bigger cities would have problems with this. Jacking up the price since they are only a limited number aval.

I dont think they will discount the cars for at least the first year, especially the 135. Wait until they release pricing for the US in about two weeks. If the car is priced well, it definitely will stay in demand for over a year and the price wont go down or be discounted. You can order it and still be in good shape for delivery when the cars hit the US.

I don't believe so. I think the 128 will be the series volume leader, with the 135 acting as a more of a halo car for the series. I'm betting dealers will get far fewer allocations for the 135 than the 128. As such, buyers will have more bargaining leverage on 128s vs 135s.

I bet the 128 outsells the 135 2 to 1.

You have to understand most people on this forum are car people, and car people like fast, top of the line cars..But the general public like nice things for not alot of money and thats what the 128i is..I garuntee the 128i outsells the 135i..It may be close though...128i for me!

Sampling bias. Of course many people on a "1addicts" forum is all about the 135. I don't think that stat could be broadcast onto the general BMW buying population though. If everyone was that keen on getting the faster car, you'd see more 335s that 328s too.

Look how expensive the 335i is though! When people see a twin turbo in a 32-34K car, they will head straight to the BMW dealership to pick it up!!

excellent point....when i thought this through, a 128 at the price point suggested on this forum will bring in a whole new segment of the market that previously couldnt buy a BMW because of budget considerations......@ 31k for decently equipped 128, thats V6 Camry and Accord territory...who the hell wants one of those except the old folks here in S FLA.......
