Re-quoting what has already been said does nothing to confirm anything. As i'm sure you know, alot of misinformation has been spread about the 1M since it's inception; everything from availability, model years, colors, options, etc. There is even mention of a V8 engine in our manual. Why do you take such offense to people here trying to confirm what was said on that site?

Let us know if you get a response as i'm very curious.

how many times can do you need to be told 1 + 1 = 2 ???

redaair quoted the same thing again and attempted to clarify it even though the sentence is pretty much self explanatory.
Well.. At least it is to most of us...

Sounds like the E30 M3 driver was Chris Conant out of KC ? I know him quite well.

Unfortunately, the local E30 M3 population has dwindled in DFW. Several owners have 1Ms... possibly my fault! the owners that do have them, unortunately have not been out in force at AX as they have moved on to DE. The 740 was definitely a rare bird! We had an owner with an F10 M5 come out in June!

When I did an autocross a couple of months ago at Heartland Park in Topeka, I couldn't believe how much fun the 1M was in that environment. My instructor, a nationally ranked autocrosser, was absolutely impressed with the car, even with its bone stock suspension. We came very close to eclipsing the time of another nationally ranked guy in an E30 M3 with serious autocross chops.

What I lacked in finesse was nearly made up for in the jack rabbit acceleration out of the corners. MDM is great for autocrossing and the M button, once you get used to using it, contributes greatly to the fun.

Judging by your poor sentence structure and grammar, i'd venture to guess you were told a bit more than I was.

But in any case, I don't know how copying and pasting a block of text makes a fact any more or less true. Look up circular logic.

Let me try and say this another way. The link in the OP is from the BMW M-Power web site in a question and answer session entitled:

A High Performance Sports Engine.
Interview with Jürgen Poggel, Head of Engine Development, BMW M GmbH.

If you can't believe this mans answers I must ask you who can you believe?

How you respond to this answer is up to you, we can't control that.. Should you still not believe this would you please keep it to yourself because you are becoming pretty tiring.

Thanks

Apparently, confirming facts is blasphemy to you. As I've said before, the 1M has been centered around plenty of misinformation in it's past. Where is the harm in confirming whether this is true or not? "ZCP M3" called up a few tuning shops and I thought of a couple quick tests to try ourselves. Nothing to be offended by.

On another note, if you cannot participate in a discussion without being easily offended or tired, then I really don't think an online forum is the right place for you.

Hmmmmm, I think I got it! The M button triggers a heated discussion during which things can get out of control among 1M owners community...exactly as the (evil) engineers planned.

Not defending anyone here, but I think the forum member is simply asking if there is anything more concrete than just a throwaway line about the 1m at the end of a sentence when discussing the engine and M button of the M5. It's a provocative statement as can be seen in this thread. It's like BMW saying our cars have only 250kw - we all know through dynos that this is untrue.

I'm no engineer, but if the wastegate action is true, should we not be able to log this on a dyno?

I tend to agree with the BMW M-Power reasoning.

If I have "M" button "ON", I have considerable more drone than when it is OFF, and the waste gate is closed..Makes sense..( Meisterschaft GT exhaust )

"Flame suit on..fire away...."

Regarding something the M-engineer mentioned about valvetronic in the M5, I thought the n54 doesn't have valvetronic, that was something the n55 got. Or was this modified for the 1M?

You are right the 1M doesn't have Valvetronic, but this has nothing to do with keeping the turbo spinning up by closing the waste gate. Valvetronic simply removes the butterfly in the intake system. It's just what lets air into the cylinders.

Having the intake system pressured up by closing the waste gate is what he his talking about here.

Thanks for the explanation. It certainly 'feels' like there is more happening than just throttle sensitivity when the M is pressed.

As a subjective opinion only from those that had sprint boosters added to their n54 and now have a 1m, did the sensations of this mod alone feel similar to pressing the m button?

i m by no means an expert and have no clue what goes on under the bonnet, but it does feel to me the M button on the 1m and the sport button are somehow similar since both increase throttle response, but the main difference to me is the M button makes the throttle a bit more aggressive than the sport one on the 135

Keeping the wastegate closed means revving the engine you'd be building boost.
Simple to see/test. Anyone with a boost gauge (P3 gauge etc) could perhaps try this for us.
M button OFF, rev the car, see what you get. Repeat with M button ON, if it's true you should see positive boost.

Simples ... like the Meerkat adds.

Ok...so we have an M engineer saying the M button keeps the wastegates closed. I think it is up to the non believers to prove this to be false rather than have the believers prove it to be true. At this point, I believe the M dude. I don't think it really matters because if its not....its not like its going to cause me to sell the car.

+1

We've covered this last year. If the M engineer says the M button closes the waste gates, then that what I'm going to call it. I treat the M engineer along the same line as how I treat Cassius Clay's momma!
