Finally Changed my Spark Plugs

I finally got a around to changing my plugs yesterday after having them sitting in my garage for almost three months. My car was idling really rough and these poor plugs got abused quite badly as I did alot of testing of octane boosters and alcohol/ethanol race fuels. Car is idling perfectly now. Thanks to Paul (mcmn) for letting me have his Burger Motorsport Spark plug socket. Took a total of 30 minutes.

Yeh they were cooked Matt. I knew they were gonna be bad. I think I'm gonna change them every 15,000klms if not sooner.

It's not a very common plug but most places like Repco or Supercheap can order them in for you. It's a Bosch plug part #ZGR6STE2. Cost's anywhere between $18-$25 each or you can but them from BMW for $45 (that's cause the plug has BMW printed on it).

Out of curiosity, what lessons did you learn. From my experience there is no such thing as a good (off the shrlf) octane booster. Regardless of how much or little you use, they all seem to foul the plugs eventually and despite their denials, the O2 sensor and injectors too.

What was your experience?

STAY AWAY FROM OCTANE BOOSTER!! I used a few brands with race fuel just so I could run more boost but they are not good for the car at all. They foul the plugs, reduce injector life and make your exhaust tips go orange. I think they do work and in my case I upped my boost from 14.5 psi to 16-17 psi but I wouldn't recommend it.

See what all that octane booster does to your plugs Edwin!! They look nasty! I'll be changing mine in about 10k. I'm changing mine every 25k for now. May look at doing 15-20k intervals instead. Having the socket makes it a lot cheaper.

Lol. The car feels so much better and I gave it plenty on the way home tonight and it felt very responsive. It's probably my imagination as well as the 100% meth I have in the tank.
I torqued the new plugs at 23nm.

Mine has been idling a bit rough even since the injector "leak" issue. While they replaced the injectors i suspected the plugs may be fouled. I tried to give it an italian tune up but that didn't help either :roll eyes:

Just like to check, is this the socket to get?

also found these on ebay with $12 shipping

Those poor plugs even went a few rounds on 18psi with no meth just some race fuel.

A little sandpaper would clean those right up.

I thought you tried running 17psi one time on premium 98 fuel too? Either way those plugs took a beating!

skycat

Hi all
I had a chat with my Bosch man some time ago about the DI plugs and asked for a deal,
Advan are happy to pass on the deal we have many in stock the price is $15.00 each inc gst, we can fit them as well if you like.
It is a good idea to replace them at least every 20,000 km forget what the book says.
