Went to Dealer (first service), question!!!

So I took my car in (13k miles) for its first service which was overdue 3 weeks or so. I previously changed my oil 5k, 10k miles.

The SA mentioned they'd do oil/filter change, wipers and said they would do a 'scope scan' which I didnt understand but didnt question.

He said it would take about 1.5 hours and I got a loaner after complaining to the service manager (had specifically requested one for service to get back to work and had scheduled my appt 2 weeks in advance).

Dropped the car off at 9am and he called around 1pm to tell me its ready at 230-3pm. Left work early at 4 arrived at 430pm to pick up the car it wasnt washed, so I had them take it back to wash. While I waited, I went to check out an 09 M3 coupe and talked to a sales guy to see what kind of deal he can swing on it. So after about 30 min of talking/test drive we return and my car had been washed etc. He wanted to do an appraisal when he noticed some of my mods. Suspension, quads, cf mirrors, grilles, hamann cf diffuser, cf vrs trunk, etc etc and said 'uhhh the car needs to be returned to stock.'. I said no problem, if you can work out the price on the M3 I will return the car back to stock. They were running an 'appraisal' when I see the sales manager getting into my car to take it for a test drive

Anyways another 15 min goes by and my car hasnt returned and I pass on the 1400/month offer for a lease on the M3 and am looking for my car.

I look outside, walk all around and cant locate my car. Finally I ask the sales guy, 'where'd your manager park it?' He proceeds to walk towards the back lot near service garage and it's parked there. I grab keys and get in, then I notice in my drivers door handle (which you grab to close/shut the door when you get in the car) a piece of plastic with OBD stamped on it was sitting there?? I was like WTF?!?! So my question is, did this OBD plastic door get opened during the service 'scope' or perhaps the sales manager was 'curious' to see if I had modded with a chip and wanted to see if he can pull something up and try to void me using some type of OBDII scanner??

Not like a sales person/manager to get involved in warranty issues or service issues, but it was really weird how he took the car for a test drive for like 15 min. and parked it in the back???

What do you guys think??

Check the panel next to where your left foot would be when you're driving. You'll see where the cover goes. It's the cover over the data link connector used to read fault codes and talk to the car.

the technicians probably used something down there, or the sales guy got clumsy and kicked it out

sales + service usually dont get along, doubt hes trying to "void" your warranty

I agree, its like two different worlds.

However, I'm not sure if the regular scope test includes full diagnostics check.

A "standard scope" is reading all the faults in the vehicle, resetting the service indicators, and clearing all the faults.

I dont think they voided your warranty or anything like that. You would have known if they flagged you for anything.Chill out and enjoy.

this is correct... the tech probably just forgot to put the obd cover back on after he did your "standard scope"

question on this related topic. How sure are we that it's just a standard"reading to clear errors, etc?" I am paranoid now because I removed the V3 before taking the car in. Car has 22k miles on it, no problems with anything other than the maintenance work needed.

I ran bypass plugs on my Procede V3 rev ONE when I took it in for my brake fluid change, microfilter, and brake pads. There are 4 jobs on my receipt, the second one states:

Job 2 -- standard scope

CBS report indicates vehicle due for standard scope
Due per CBS
Completed Standard Scope

should I be worried about this, as I only ran bypass plugs on my procede? Did not take the unit out since it was such a simple job and they should have had no business fiddling with ECU area...

any takes?

hmm, what bothered me the MOST was that you let the them "wash" your car

first thing i do anytime i go in for service is make sure they put that big "no wash" sign on my windshield.

no worries --
u will see that every scheduled service

something like 0000105 -- Perform Standard Scope As Per CBS -- they have to do that to reset the CBS data ---

Now, Interrogating Fault Memory is totally different.. that is a sign your system is being looking into .. HTH

Sweet. Looks like I'm good. I've got the old Procede V3, just plug it in and forget about it. I've never had a problem with it *knock on wood*

I don't do any datalogging, etc, and I'm quite happy with the power delivery, so no reason to upgrade!
