ESS Tuning

Hi,

I wanted to check with you all see if any of you have any knowledge or experience with the ECU tune offered by ESS Tuning. Any thoughts on which ECU tune would be the best and most effective yet, is safe?

Welcome!
You have lots of choices man. I don't know anything about ESS. I'm sure someone on this forum has it but it's not very popular.

The most popular are: Cobb AP, JB4, and Procede.
There is a wealth of information about these upgrades. Check them out and see which one suits your needs the most.
I for instance chose to go with Cobb and I'm very happy with it

I had the ESS for a bit and it didn't work. They're probably better now, but I wouldn't want to try TBH.

I'm running GIAC and can recommend them. You'll find lots on them here if you search a bit, so I won't elaborate.

Hi and Welcome. I'm not positive about their 335i tuning products, but had an ESS Supercharger kit including tuning (had to send my DME to them) on my 330ci. Had no issues with them at all. The only issue I had was a lack of "local" support when needed. I too have a GIAC flash on my e90 and can reccomend their product.

Good Luck

I have the ESS tune on my car and it makes quite the difference. I cant say what the difference is between them and COBB and Giac but overall its a great tune. If your looking for something thats gonna push the boundaries of your car and make it run to its max then this isnt the tune for you cause this tune does alot more then just boost the turbos. It takes into account everything which im not sure if piggybacks do or not because it runs with the original ECU but you can expect a a great boost increase and you will definatly feel the diffrence. All in all if your looking for something more conservative and safe this tune is great and i run stage 2 which is plenty good for me.

O and i figure id throw this in to since most people worry about warrenty. This tune is so invisble. Ive had to take my car in for the HPFP and injectors and ive taken it for oil changes and not a word from anyone. I even had BMW reflash my car back to stock and they said that everything looked fine on the software part when they flashed it so this tune to my surprise is absolutly invisble. If they do find it ask how cause they couldnt find mine. But note if they do flash over it its gone but ESS reflashes for free or atleast they did for me.

ESS is a good company with a good reputation...

...for superchargers

their n54 tunes are way behind what procede/jb/cobb are doing

I see you are in Phoenix. Who did you use for the ESS Tune? I would like to stay away from Piggy Back systems and go with an actual ECU flash if I could. If there is a company in Arizona locally that does a good job with tuning, please let me know.

Greetings from Phx..
I've heard very little about ESS but from what I've heard just recently from another 335 owner that the ess pulls like a freight train... Id like to see what there tune consists of...

Otherwise go to north scottsdale "goodspeed performance" and see what they can do for you and share here..
I haven't gone there in a few months

They are not impressive at all, it's what they've been advertising for years.

Remember, these are figures for power at the crank and not at the wheels.

He has had it installed in his car, check out the extensive mod review in his signature.

I installed GIAC stage 1 last thursday after a year of reading on the subject on E90post. I am thoroughly impressed with it.

My advice to OP is, find out what your needs are, do your research properly by searching time and time again on the forum and elsewhere and then make your decision.

It didn't work properly, so I had it removed.

Even had it worked properly, it would have been in the ballpark of the usual 14psi tunes that are sold here in Europe and which give you around 400hp at the crank. That is not impressive, as these figures have been around for years.

If they have worked out the initial problems, I don't say it's not a good flash. But with GIAC there's something better on the market.

The nice thing about yhe Ess tune is that you can install and remove it yourself, like if you have to go to the garage for a service or somthing.

What is GIAC?
