I have a 2024 BMW i5 with DAPP. In the last 2 weeks I tried using it on two major mappes highways in Dallas and Houston and seem to be running into issues.

When I turn the system a few times it says something about Camera restricted and then both of the lights on the dashboard show up (lane keeping/steering) and both turn green.

That's it however. It used to say something along the lines of driving assistance activated or something under these two lights. Also, there are no yellow or red lights on the steering wheel that light up anymore

I'm not sure why it also is saying that camera is restricted as it has a direct line vision to my eyes, has been cleaned and I'm not wearing sunglasses.
Try a reboot of the system and see if that helps in any way.

By the way, I guess you meant to say i5 from 2024 not 2014. :)
Pretty sure it's talking about the camera in your windshield that looks at the road.

Where would I see that camera? The car is super clean and would like to see what might be causing that
Mine has these three (3) that you see below, I have no idea which one of them it is but for sure it is one of them. :)

Probably the eye tracking cameras are blocked. For hands-free, all 3 have to be able to see your eyes. I use my two seating presets to store both the normal setup for driving, and the setup for using hands-free. My preferred driving position has the wheel down low where the rim blocks the cameras along the top of the instrument cluster.

There's three cameras inside? I only thought there was one in between the two LED screens on the dashboard.

I have the steering wheel down as far as it goes but I have a clear path to the camera in-between the two screens.

There is also one on each side of the center dash screen, one on the left side in the center and the other one on the right side.

Look in the photo from the post below. And if you pay attention, on the right there is also a black vertical rectangle containing the right sensors.

Nope, there are 3. Think about it, in order to implement the left and right side mirror glance feature, you would need left and right cameras, not just a top and right camera...

Unlike the top camera that is mostly affected by how much up and down you set the steering wheel, the two side cameras are affected by how much you extend/retract the wheel. I had to play with this because the wheel rim can block the cameras depending on how it is set.

If you shine a light into the cluster you can see the rectangle areas of the camera units better.

I didn't post this picture on purpose, because I think that's where everybody gets the idea that there are only 2 cameras...

That is the only one that I found when I google-d for one. Or maybe there were some other ones that did not catch my attention.I will try to get one when I get to the car now and post it later.

Or I will just take the one from the post I put above and highlight also the right sensors if I am not successful in making them glare to be visible with my photo. 🙂
Now that I think about it, I also can't get gestures to work even though I'm pretty sure they're turned on.

And then randomly sometime a song will Skip and then it will show me the gesture on the screen like I magically did it.

But then if I try to repeat I can't get it to work even if I do the gesture while moving my hand around the different points in the driver

So it got me thinking that maybe there's an issue at the camera but I have no idea.

Side note, just to be sure how can I confirm the highways are mapped for assistance.

One is the hardy toll road and 99 in Houston which absolutely should be mapped because they're major highways
Below are the two sensors for the left and right side. They were not very bright as I caught them in my photos. :)

There's only one Driver Attention camera and it's in the middle. The rest are infrared light sources.

The instrument display cluster (A664) for DAPP with the additional Driver Assistance Camera gains 1 connector (A664*2B) for the 1 camera to facilitate sending signals from the camera to the Basic Central Platform:

Are you specifically trying to get Highway Assist to work? Because DAPP works everywhere. It's Highway Assist that's only available on certain roads. The mapped Highway Assist areas can be viewed on the navigation app:

If you're wondering how to activate Highway Assist, you just let go of the steering wheel after activating DAPP. There's no extra button press needed.

And if it's not happening because you're getting "Camera restricted", take your car to the dealer so they can scan for codes. There is clearly nothing covering your cameras so you might have bigger problems to tackle.
All good info but iI think the OP should just start with an iDrive reboot before visiting the dealer...

I second this. That is what I have also said at the beginning of the topic. :)

Highway assist is just Lane control and assisted steering but you have to keep your hands on the wheel right? That seems to work but then the dashboard wheel turns yellow if I take my hands off after a few seconds.

I'm specifically trying to get it to drive itself where I can take my hands off the wheel and the lights on the physical steering wheel light up green. I also think it says something on the dash such as driving assist plus or something to that effect

However, on the two highways I was on when I turned highway assist on, That's when I started getting the camera obstruction or some sort of notice for a few seconds
