Surprisingly, Atlanta has been "cooler" than the mid-west and the north for most of the summer. We've also been getting rain in the afternoons that breaks-up the swelterfest.
There were some storms in the early evening over in VA-Highlands and Midtown but it sounds like your alarm issue happened much later.
Hope they figure it out and nice to see another BSM owner in ATL (my build week is now!)
