Had this same issue on my previously owned X5. Turned out a 10 amp fuse for the seat electronics blew due to an intermittent short. Even after the fuse was replaced the code had to be cleared only to show up again a few weeks later. Apples vs oranges? Perhaps. Hope its not an intermittent issue.
Please let us know what they find is the root cause.
