This issue of fitting 245/40/17 on the ET40 rear rims, will probably come down to tire choice. If you talk about track tires I would be thinking of Toyo R888 as minimum. If you want a proper semi slick for circuit use, eg Yokohama A050, I seriously doubt that will fit on the rear 17x8.5 ET40 without rolling the fenders. On the other hand if your idea of a wide track tire is a Dunlop ZII star spec, or Hankook RS-3, then with 2.0 rear camber and stock fenders 245/40/17 will probably be ok.
