Ferrari and Porsche do well with AWD... I'm far from opposed to it. Take a system that sends 80-99% of the bias towards the rear, and I bet alot of folks who "swear by RWD" (not a jab, this includes myself) would find the driving experience no different than what they felt in their E46 M3.
Now if we're talking a driving experience closer to an E30 M3, than that invloves just a much more raw and mechanical experience in general, without about 600lbs ot today's electronics, safety gear, comfort, etc... but I digress.
AWD I'm open to... hovercrafts are for folks who want to take their swamp boats out on the road, and for GIJOE villans!
