How the Cooling System and MAP Thermostat Work

I found the following enlightening, both how our electronically controlled thermostats work, and what the ECU is trying to achieve by targeting different coolant temperatures for different operating modes. The most important observation is that under track conditions we will be operating under "90°C High + map-thermostat mode", which is to say maximum cooling.
