What do you mean by "less confidence inspiring"? Soft pedal? High pedal force required?
If you never plan to go to the track, I don't think there is any reason to try to upgrade to a bigger brake kit unless you just like the appearance better. The OEM BMW pads have the best initial bite of anything I've tried on my car, and work well for street driving and mild performance driving like autocross.
