It is more a seal between the radiator and the radiator bracket as opposed to between the radiator and the condenser. To some extent it reduces the ability of air to bypass the radiator over the top. Not sure how well it works on the original radiator, but it is not tremendously effective with the CSF radiator, which is why I have also retained the orange firesleeve seals.
