PSA: Vibration Both Under Braking Accelerating in Steering Wheel
Hello all,
Just thought I would share a finding in relation to Reluctor rings on the axels and the ABS unit.
Symptoms: Vibration under braking and driving at speed, Random DSC kicking in
So I had previously used a washer and spaced out the wheel speed sensors in the rear when I got the car. Seemed to fix the random traction control intervention.
I had noticed recently that my steering wheel would shake at around 80kph with both brakes applied and just driving in a straight line. No codes at all with my scan tool. Also, the car would have what felt like trouble tracking in a straight line. I had checked the front arms, but everything is fine and there was no play.
I just summed it up to the winter wheels im on having lost a weight. HOWEVER, recently I was reading about the dsc module and the dtc mode (one click) and tested a theory. That being, if I drive around with dtc mode on, would the car overlook spastic variations in speed readings. Thus eliminating the vibration I was feeling both on the brakes and coasting?
YES, yes it did.
So, if anyone else out there has mysterious vibration they can not find after eliminating worn control arms, wheel and tire balance, look at your wheel speed sensors. I guess the car was getting inconsistent readings from the wheel speed sensors and varying the application of brake pressure in attempt to keep the car in a straight line, both on and off the brakes.
Cleaned all the wheel speed sensors and replaced one that had been making contact with the axel.
No more vibrations.
Hope this helps someone!
