Hmm, good question on the buckle. At a glance a new one is over $200 USD, and you'd want 2 of them. There's a sensor in them as well. Might have to remove the seats to get to the bolt for the buckles as well. Lots of work. Vinyl, maybe, but seems like it'd slide out of place. Any fixes with sandpaper or polishing just sound like they'd get further damaged. I've seen people color them with a red permanent marker, but it seems like you'd be able to tell that's exactly what you did and it might look silly.
Sorry, that's the opposite of what you were hoping for!
