Guys, I need closure. Did you resolve your Vanos problems or set your car on fire?

I checked the check valves, they're clean, they suck one way not the other. Replaced the intake solenoid with a pierburg (OE Supplier to BMW). Error still appeared. Swapped with the exhaust solenoid, no change still an intake solenoid 2a82 code, boost control 3100 code, and interestingly one time, a camshaft sensor code and a "timing over retarded" code. Though I haven't replicated those again. I have a jb4 with the MHD backend flash, intercooler, larger inlets, hot air intake, new battery and some regrets (namely the back end flash and the inlets on RHD, mistakes were made).
I'm not keen on cam ledges because the cars have devalued themselves in the last few years and its not a guaranteed fix reading other posts. I'd rather plop a new engine in it. Any further suggestions or any way to be sure the cam ledge is the issue?
Currently got some cam sensors on order just to be sure (OEM supplier). And may load up the parts cannon with some OEM check valves and a second solenoid. Before giving up and getting a $2700 engine delivered.
