The Aircraft Commander is typically a Colonel (O-6). The First Pilot/First Officer and Relief Pilot/Bunkie are usually Majors (O-4) or Lt. Colonel's (O-5).
Traditionally, when the president steps down from his term, the Aircraft Commander (O-6) retires.
The call sign for any aircraft carrying the President is Air Force One. During the inauguration (when the outgoing president is flying home), the moment that the new president is sworn in, the call sign of the jet inflight changes from "Air Force One" to "SAM001" (Special Air Mission) as the president is no longer onboard.
