Actually, the cleanup will be a bit harder if you heat up the adhesive first. It turns gooey like gum. Don't heat unless you have to, the floss should cut through fine on its own.

Follow up with polish and wax in that spot after it has been cleaned.

PS- I thought the title of this thread was "Things you've learned from d-bagging your car" I LOL'd.
