for everyone wondering about the steering rack: I just bolted the steering rack back into place while keeping the wheels straight. With the car still jacked up and the steering rack mounted I could then move the steering wheel back to the center position without moving the wheels. After that I drooped the car back on the ground and everything was back to normal. It feels perfectly centered to me, it probably is a hair off but I cant tell so it really doesn't matter.
