Well studies in Europe and America have shown the best selling colours are Black, Grey/Silver, Blue, and White.

So while it may be 'safe' it also sells the most.

In addition to that you have image. BMW sells an image which is different from say Mini with its colour options. Sure people can paint an aftermarket colour just like they can put aftermarket 'ghetto' tyres on the car. But in today's world there is a reason why BMW doesn't offer spinning wheels as an option as it doesn't go with their image.

And while most modifications done on here are tasteful, I would imagine for the most part BMW wouldn't mind if every car was only using BMW available options as in their eyes you are a driving advertisement for the brand. This is so much more evident with premiums brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi.
