In Europe they made it in 2012 too. Also Mexico. North America only got 2011.
Ah, the eternal debate model year (2011) or production year (2011 or 2012 depending on actual car). I've always favored defaulting to model year unless someone is specifically going out of the way to specify when their car was manufactured.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sorry you've lost me on this one. I honestly don't care if it's a 2011 or 2012 model. It says on the registration papers it's a 2012 model, and built in Jan-12. I understand it came out in 2011. It's a 1 Series M all the same.

My Z4MCoupe was built and registered in 2008. But I think the first one was made in 2006. Or is it a 2002 model z4. I'm not sure, this is all new to me.
Not claiming to be an expert, but my understanding is that the model year of a vehicle is a single year, usually the year that car in that configuration is first manufactured and sold. The model year is then used to identify that model regardless of year of manufacture as long as there are no fundamental chassis or mechanical changes (ignoring "facelift" aka minor model change for now).

The 1M was manufactured in 2011 and 2012 without any substantial modification. A 2011 and 2012 car should be identical. Following this convention model year is 2011.

I hope neither of my posts have been disrespectful. I love my AW beauty manufactured in 2012 just like it seems you do. Hope you get to enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine. Peace.
