I have tried in the past with 405lbs with no straps, but my grip gives out after 4-5 reps or so. Plus I'm trying to focus on keeping my scapulae and lats contracted, and straps let me do that to knock out the reps I'm after.
Probably because I'm an alternate grip guy on deads and have no problem holding the bar that way. Also do lot lower reps heavy with dead than I do other back moves like row which would be over over and make harder for me to grip.
