I think it depends on a lot of factors. When I tried to trade them my 2006 550i during the peak of the gas prices (in 2008), I was offered $28K for a car that stickered for $70K two years earlier. While I was not pleased with that number (and did not take it), I believe it was CarMax's polite way of saying "um, we really don't want your V8, no matter how clean it is or how few miles it has

As for the 1M prices - they are what they are. I don't think too many "decent" ones (cars not in accidents or used by BMW at the PDC) are going for less than $60K these days.
