I remember it being easy as well. The CDV inserts into part #2 pretty much exactly how part #1 inserts into the CDV.
PB Blaster would be better than WD-40, it's made for jobs like this, but I'm on board w/ the idea and not trying to nit-pick the WD-40.
Rotating the part might help break it free vs. just pulling on it.
