As the title implies. how would one know if they blew a CP?

Also, how many people have actually experienced this?
I keep reading that it is a known weak point and it will fail even with stock boost levels, but 3+ years of spirited driving and I haven't experienced it.
Is the "you should proactively upgrade because it is a known failure point" just vendor hype?
I want to hear first-hand experience from people who have had their CP fail.
